New for 2018

The new Elantra GT hatchback joins the lineup for 2018 and a new SEL trim replaces the former SE with Popular Equipment trim. The Limited trim adds gloss black interior accents and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Blue Link and HomeLink. The Sport trim receives a power sunroof and blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert and all trims receive a new exterior color, Machine Gray.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The base 2.0-liter I-4 engine produces 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque and delivers an EPA-rated 26/36 mpg city/highway with the six-speed manual and 28/37 mpg with the six-speed automatic in the sedan (29/38 mpg in the base SE trim). In the Elantra GT, that engine delivers 23/31 mpg with the manual and 24/32 mpg with the automatic. The Elantra Eco produces 128 hp and 156 lb-ft from its 1.4-liter turbo-four that comes mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and delivers a lineup-best 32/40 mpg. The 1.6-liter turbo-four in the Sport model is rated at 22/30 mpg with the six-speed manual and 26/33 mpg with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in the sedan. When equipped in the Elantra GT Sport, that engine delivers 22/29 mpg with the manual and 26/32 mpg with the automatic. All models are front-wheel drive.

Safety

The All New Hyund sedan and GT hatchback both received a four-star overall safety rating out of five stars from the NHTSA. The 2018 Elantra sedan and GT hatchback are considered 2018 Top Safety Picks from the IIHS for receiving the highest rating of Good in all conducted crash tests and the highest rating of Superior for the front crash prevention test for avoiding a 12-mph collision and reducing the speed of a 25-mph collision by 22 mph thanks to the automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian detection found in the Ultimate package. That package is available on the Limited trim for the sedan and in the Tech package for the GT Sport hatchback.

Utility (Cargo Space and Interior Room)

The 2018 Elantra sedan can hold 14.4 cubic feet of cargo in its trunk while the GT hatchback can hold up to 24.9 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 55.1 with the rear seats down. Front seat passengers have 42.2 inches of legroom in both body styles but the sedan’s rear seats offer 35.7 inches, more than the GT’s 34.8 inches.
